Different than milliohmmeters and microhmmeters, megohmmeters measure high resistance in megohms. In addition, megohmmeters provided by Electri-Temp. are capable of analyzing and reporting DC output voltage, DC output current, breakage rate and resistance range.
Megohmmeters manufactured by our partners offer an accurate and dependable method of resistance measurement for safety and efficiency in wires, cables, transformers, electric appliances, electric motors, cable reels and a wide variety of other electrical components. For example, megohmmeters are often used in automotive and aircraft industries in order to measure the insulation resistance of components such as fuel pumps to ensure that manufacturer specifications and safety standards are met.
Among our range of megohmmeters customers can find both portable insulation testers and benchtop units. Some units are capable of testing under high voltages such as 70kV DC, while others have specific features for cable manufactures such as MΩ/km. A MEGOHMMETER IS A HIGH RESISTANCE METER DEDICATED TO MEASURE AN OHMIC VALUE UNDER A DIRECT VOLTAGE OF GREAT STABILITY
To measure a high value resistance, techniques for measuring a low value current are used. A constant voltage source (DC Voltage) is applied to the resistance to be measured and the resulting current is read on a highly sensitive ammeter circuit that can display the resistance value (in MΩ, GΩ, TΩ). A Megohmmeter is also called a high resistance tester, a teraohmmeter, or a megger.
